What should you look for during a home inspection?

By Glenn Wegner, Lone Star Realty, Keller, TX Last reviewed: October 6, 2026

Use a licensed inspector and go to the inspection if you can. The big items in North Texas are the roof, because of the strong Texas heat; the foundation, because clay soils expand and contract; and the home's systems, especially the HVAC, to confirm it's operating within its intended limits. Inspectors also look at plumbing, electrical, the water heater, and signs of moisture or pests, and you can add specialty inspections if the general report points to them. In my experience, an inspection is never wasted, and more often than not it saves the buyer far more than it costs. Ask questions and read the whole report.
