Can you get a home loan if you're currently between duty stations?

By Glenn Wegner, Lone Star Realty, Keller, TX Last reviewed: October 6, 2026

Yes, in many cases, because you're still on active duty and the 90-day service rule still applies. What changes is paperwork, since lenders will want proof of your income and where you're headed. Orders and your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) are the usual starting documents, and you should confirm with your lender exactly what they'll require. The bigger question is usually timing, so talk to me and a lender before your orders are final. You don't always know what plans await you in the military, so forecast as much as you can and we'll synchronize your plans for a low-stress move. If you don't have much notice, I can still help. It's one of my strengths.
