Can you buy outside the North Texas area using a VA loan?

By Glenn Wegner, Lone Star Realty, Keller, TX Last reviewed: October 6, 2026

Yes. A VA loan isn't tied to one metro area or state, as long as the home will be your residence and your lender can lend where the home is. I'm licensed in Texas, so if you're buying somewhere else, I'll connect you with an agent there and stay involved with your lender and timeline. I only refer clients to out-of-state agents I've scrutinized and interviewed, so you get the service you deserve. When I refer a client, the receiving agent pays me a small referral fee to cover the cost of client acquisition. The fee is negotiated between the agents, and it doesn't change the price you pay for service. Both of us aim to make sure you get the best service possible. Confirm with your lender that they lend in the state you're moving to.
